Amy’s origin story begins on the plains of Oklahoma, where her parents let her
watch Jaws and listen to Leonard Cohen at too young an age. Her fascination with storytelling began at the University of Oklahoma. She earned a degree in Film Studies, which took her to Chicago, where she worked as Studs Terkel’s audio archivist. It was with Studs that she became a lover of unscripted, authentic storytelling.

Amy has established herself as a leading director for celebrity interviews. From her award-winning documentaries to her multiple episodes of Masterclass, she demonstrates a deft touch when it comes to balancing the professional and the personal sides of public figures.

Amy’s films have premiered at fests like Sundance, SXSW, and Tribeca before going on to networks like HBO, Paramount+, and SHOWTIME. Her first feature, “Hal,” was nominated for a Producer’s Guild Award, a Critics Choice Award, and was listed in Rolling Stone’s Top 10 Documentaries of the year. She then directed “Sheryl,” about the life and work of iconic musician Sheryl Crow, which was nominated for a Hollywood Critics Association Award. Most recently, she co-directed the miniseries “Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken,” and has an upcoming project in association with HBO’s Music Box series.

Her portfolio includes Masterclasses featuring RuPaul, Danny Elfman, Gloria Steinem, Gordon Ramsay, and many more. Amy’s interviews capture the charismatic personality of her subjects, weaving conversation with vivid imagery and archival materials to illustrate these individuals’ lasting impact on culture and the arts.

Amy’s commercial work is an extension of her documentary sensibilities. Her recent videos for the national “1 Pledge” PSA campaign feature conversations with Usher, Adam Schefter, and Robin Arzon, embodying both vulnerability and a call to action as these celebrities share their personal experience with diabetes. The campaign premiered in a Times Square takeover and was featured in USA Today, the AP, and CNN among others.
